About Us

The Symphonic Voyages story

Symphonic Voyages was created to present themed cruise vacations for classical music lovers.  While on board, our passengers enjoy concerts by a professional symphony orchestra and internationally acclaimed soloists, a chamber music series featuring works by a composer-in-residence, pre-concert talks and Q&A sessions with the featured artists, film screenings, and other related social activities, all while traveling to the Caribbean islands on a luxurious Celebrity cruise ship.

As you can see, a Symphonic Voyage combines the pleasures of a classical music festival and a warm-weather winter getaway.  But our goal is to create more than a concert series on a cruise ship.  What we’re really interested in creating is a community of musicians and music-lovers that will live on after the vacation has ended.

Symphonic Voyages became a reality on our maiden voyage, which took place from January 3-15, 2011 on the Celebrity Mercury as she sailed from Baltimore to the Caribbean islands of St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. Kitts, Antigua, and St. Maarten.  The roster of guest artists included violinist Cho-Liang Lin, soprano Susan Lorette Dunn, pianist Jeewon Lee, composer Alex Shapiro, and conductor Larry Rachleff, plus the 54 members of the Symphonic Voyages Orchestra.

The experience was a resounding success.   Not only did our wonderful musicians present a truly first-rate series of performances, but the social community Symphonic Voyages had envisioned came to life, forging bonds between performers and listeners that have continued to enrich the lives of all who participated.  The positive feedback and testimonials we’ve received have made it clear how eager everyone is to repeat the experience.  We look forward to seeing these friends again on Symphonic Voyages II – and we’d love for you to join us!
